Why is it so alluring to study at IITs, and why technical courses always.. Is there a dearth of good courses. Its distasteful that the middle class parents brainwash their kids into choosing only engineering (and it has to be something to do with infotech) and if the guy doesn’t make it he is a loser. Pathetic.. These coaching centers make use of people’s weakness.

Bingo ! You hit the dart@ Jayant... These days every parent seem too eager to make sure their ward get an admission in IIT, as if that was a sure way to success. In this e-age and with the advent of industries, for instance, BPO, big fat salary can be derived from else where and not necessarily from WIPROs or Infosys.Come to think of the parental and peer pressure for these budding talents, who find the going tough and then resort to things like suicide!

It is a big industry and it just cashes in on people’s weakness, like every other industry does. Just goes to show hoe education is a big business and is being viewed and managed as just ’business’ and nothing else. IIT was founded to ensure that the best creative minds in the country serve the country and help improve the standard of common man through science and technology. Yet, it is just about ’making cash’ now and barring a few others just want to have a secure future and cash flowing in.
